The Datai Langkawi

This is the best hotel I’ve stayed so far! Seamless service, high attention to details. They offer things which I’ve never seen in any other resorts, for example deep clean of your glasses on the beach, night tea provided daily with sweets, excellent baby menu for those under 2 y.o., and many other small things which make a huge difference. We had a family holidays here with 2 kids: a baby and a 4 y.o. I really want to come back once kids are over 6 y.o. as there are lots of interesting activities for them to join. Beach is amazing for small kids: water temperature was +30oC in December, and it’s a shallow water for a first few meters. Family pool is right next to the beach so you don’t need to choose between staying next to the pool or sea. There’s no butler service in the hotel, but believe me or not after a few days of staying there I thought it’s not really needed because the service is just superb, buggies arrive promptly, you don’t need to preorder kids meals as they serve it immediately,.. I’m usually very picky when it comes to service and food, and The Datai exceeded my expectations! Special thank you to Gaik Ying at the reception. They make you feel as a very special guest. Another note on a fantastic Christmas Eve dinner: very delicious (especially cold seafood platter and whole roasted lamb), high quality, great service and value for money. Again, best Christmas buffet we’ve ever had. Christmas carols broke my heart!

Great stay at the resort, especially for the following reasons: - The kindest buggy drivers make you feel so comfortable and welcomed at the resort. Really appreciate their kindness, which felt so genuine and warm, and the service was very fast too - Had some feedback to the resort with one particular activity and the villa room, and the duty manager, guest experience managers were so kind and considerate to hear the feedback and really went above and beyond to rectify it. It is really the effort that means a lot, and Datai team’s effort didnt go unnoticed, which made the stay very enjoyable and highly satisfactory - The landscape of the resort as well as the facilities (swimming pool, stairs, pathway around the resort, beach area) are pristine and immaculate, you can tell the maintenance is kept at a very high standard - Fantastic dinner served at the Pavillion and Gulai, food was absolutely amazing with very well priced wine. Really liked both restaurants and happy we had the chance to try both - Transportation to the golf course was super convenient and satisfactory with their well maintained, clean cars - Water sports were complimentary, such as paddle boats, kayak

Spent three nights here with my husband for our fifteenth anniversary. My first visit to the Datai was several years ago, before the renovated expansion. Both experiences were lovely, in part due to the spectacular environment you’re surrounded in. It’s a beautiful beach and a remarkable, ancient jungle and in that way the Datai is unmatched. Hornbills perch by your balcony and I spotted the black giant squirrel twice from the comfort of our rooms. It’s a remarkable privilege. I also love keeping an eye out for new, rare bird sounds. When you walk here you see fish jump, and the shadow of eagles scatter past the sand. The Datai in itself, however, is also lovely as an institution. Everyone is thoughtful and considerate, there is remarkable personalisation in their treatment of guests here. We were given complimentary wishes such as cake and a bed of roses when they heard of our occasion to visit. I am referred to personally in most correspondences, from the room’s digital interface to operator connections (commonly even in many luxury stays, even the Four Seasons) correspondence is strictly to the registered payer. But perhaps the best example of their professionalism was in how they handled my husband’s mishap when he accidentally stepped on an urchin. The staff in charge of sports equipment, dealing with what is essentially an issue adjacent to their tasks, did not flinch to round everyone together, call for first aid, help my husband to shore and personally and manually help extract many of the urchin thorns. My husband received excellent follow-up care from all members of the staff team. Good bandages and painkillers upon demand. I was touched at how, during the whole thorny episode, these young men cheered my husband’s stoicism through the process. Emotional labour is common with luxury institutions but the sincere it’s of their efforts touched me and I remain grateful to them. I regret I never got their names. Datai is full of lovely people in their employ. Anyway I confidently recommend this unique resort to friends and acquaintances around the world. Whatever their experiences and standards I’ve no doubt they would be pleased and have little to quibble about within sound and fair reason. Thank you Datai.

We spent a few nights here recently, and what an experience it was! Of course, the resort has everything you expect from a top-of-the-line holiday resort: snappy and attentive service, quality furnishings, fine dining options. But the true value proposition for the Datai is the idea of five-star resort living ensconced in a million-year-old rainforest, with a beautiful sandy white beach at your doorstep. More than anything, the real artistry of the Datai is that they got the balance between Nature and Comfort just right. You will be constantly right up against Mother Nature herself, with hornbills and apes saying hi to you at the balcony of your room, while you say hi from the other side of the balcony door, enclosed in the air conditioned comfort of your room. A personal note: the day before we were about to leave, I stepped on a nasty sea urchin while wading through the beach. The staff were very quick to respond, helping me off the beach and ministering to the wound. Everyone was very kind and thoughtful, and I felt cared for. We had stayed at the Andaman some years ago, so we knew the beach was going to be amazing. But the overall experience of the Datai was truly something else. Highly highly recommended.
